Every month, millions of job seekers waste countless hours battling fragmented, repetitive online application systems. Despite having the right skills, they’re being filtered out—not for lack of talent, but due to barriers like resume parsing, keyword mismatches, and the sheer exhaustion of sending out dozens of applications a week. The result? Frustration, wasted potential, and widespread disengagement. It’s time to end job application fatigue with a smarter, agentic approach.

The problem

In the United States alone, over 5.8 million people are unemployed at any given moment, and more than 160 million participate in the labor force. On average, job seekers submit 21 applications per week, but only 2% receive interview callbacks. The median time to land a new role is over 5 months. Application forms are often platform-specific, with 70% of candidates abandoning processes mid-way due to complexity or redundancy. Automated applicant tracking systems (ATS) filter out up to 75% of resumes before a human ever sees them, mostly due to non-matching keywords or formatting, not actual skill gaps. The net result: the average active job seeker spends 10+ hours per week on applications and related admin, losing hundreds of productive hours per search cycle.

The idea: BriefcaseAI

BriefcaseAI is a deployable AI agent that automates, optimizes, and personalizes the job application process for individual seekers. Users connect their work history, resume/CV, and job goal; BriefcaseAI semi-autonomously applies to suitable roles, customizing submissions to evade ATS filters, filling out forms, and scheduling follow-up reminders. It handles everything from parsing job posts, matching qualifications, and rewriting cover letters to extracting required info from clunky company portals—always with human-in-the-loop controls. The result: higher-quality applications, less burnout, and a measurable lift in interviews per month.

Architecture

The workflow starts with the user uploading their resume, work history, and job preferences (Inputs). The Ingestion Layer scrapes and parses both user input and targeted job postings, normalizing formats and extracting requirements. All data flows into the Memory/Graph layer, dynamically building a knowledge graph of the candidate’s career, job matches, and past application outcomes. The Agent Orchestrator (powered by an LLM and specialized agents) handles intelligent matching, custom writing, and sequencing of applications. Before any action, the Human Gate prompts the candidate to review, edit, or approve each submission. Finally, the Action Layer executes applications, tracks status, and pushes alerts—closing the loop with timely follow-ups and analytics.

Build plan (90 days)

Wedge: Target job seekers in tech, especially recent bootcamp grads and “serial applicants” who are sending dozens of applications per month. Integrate with LinkedIn, Indeed, and Greenhouse.
Stack: Python/TypeScript, LangChain/LLM backbone, Playwright for web automation, vector DB for memory, Next.js frontend. Heavy use of RPA for portal navigation.
Pricing: Freemium (20 applications/month free), Pro $29/mo for unlimited applications, deep ATS optimization, and analytics. Enterprise sourcing for career coaches/recruiters as a B2B SaaS add-on.

Why now

ATS filtering is growing more aggressive, and job seeking is more digital and automated than ever. Generative AI is now robust enough to fluently rewrite resumes, parse job posts, and fill forms at human level. Mass layoffs and industry churn mean millions need to apply rapidly, but face broken, repetitive systems. Job search fatigue is at an all-time high, and the infrastructure for legal, trusted agentic application is finally mature. By giving job seekers their own tireless AI “application assistant,” BriefcaseAI turns the tide—saving time, boosting morale, and getting more humans past the bots.
