DANDA #068 — ClaimWise AI: End Disability Benefits Backlog with Autonomous Filing and Tracking
Every year, millions of Americans with disabilities face a brutal, bureaucratic slog just to access the benefits they’re entitled to. The Social Security disability process is infamous for its complexity, paperwork errors, and endless delays. For many, months or years of wait can mean eviction, skipped medications, and poverty. There’s no practical automation or advocate for the little guy. It’s a human rights crisis—one I can fix with AI.
The problem
- 8.2 million: people receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).
- Over 2 million new disability claims filed each year; 65% are initially denied.
- The average applicant waits 7 months for an initial decision—and more than 18 months if they must appeal.
- Appeals backlog: over 1.1 million cases, with tens of thousands dying every year while waiting.
- More than $9B in benefits delayed annually due to paperwork errors or missed deadlines.
The idea: ClaimWise AI
ClaimWise AI is a fully autonomous agent to file, monitor, and correct disability benefit claims for Americans. It ingests medical records, provider notes, work history, and personal statements. It drafts case narratives, pre-validates forms, tracks status, and proactively notifies users (or their legal reps) of required actions or missing docs. When denials happen, it auto-preps appeals, fetches additional evidence, and coordinates with human advocates—slashing wait times and denial rates. For the first time, the most vulnerable get a relentless, expert assistant—not a faceless bureaucracy.
Architecture
ClaimWise AI takes in all relevant user data—scanned docs, PDFs, EHR records, and forms. The Ingestion engine does OCR and parsing, structuring data for the Memory/Graph. The Memory/Graph layer organizes all claim states, deadlines, and cross-references SSA rules. The Agent Orchestrator (LLMs + policy engine) plans next actions, autofills forms, and preps appeals. The Human Gate lets users or advocates review key steps before submission. The Action Layer submits applications, fetches status, or files appeals directly with SSA portals. Every step is tracked, transparent, and powered by agentic automation—no more lost paperwork or silent denials.
Build plan (90 days)
- Wedge: Target SSDI/SSI applicants in 3 states with the longest backlogs (e.g., Florida, California, Texas), partnering with disability advocacy orgs.
- Stack: OCR/NLP pipeline for forms; LLM claim drafting; integration with SSA’s eFolders and submission APIs; secure data vault; notifications engine; advocate dashboard.
- Pricing: $99 flat per claim + 2% of first-year awarded benefit on successful approval. Free for pro bono orgs (cross-subsidized by consumer legal-tech partnerships).
Why now
The disability backlog crisis is at its worst in history—over a million stuck in limbo, and the SSA is years behind on modernization. LLMs now excel at nuanced legal/medical reasoning and can parse unstructured records at human-level accuracy, enabling real claim automation for the first time. APIs from hospitals and SSA are finally maturing. Most importantly, the public is desperate for relief, and no incumbent is addressing the paperwork and tracking chaos at scale. ClaimWise AI unlocks billions in trapped support and restores hope—fast.
